The Never Years

The Never Years

So somebody at Sputnikmusic said that “Pool House” from The Never Years’ album “Life Of Dreams” was one of the coolest songs they’d heard all year. It is indeed very great. This came out last November, so a statement like that carries a bit more weight than it would in February too.

These dudes are totally glo-fi. They also tagged themselves on Bandcamp as things like chillwave, shoegaze, tropical, and dreampop. Those are all really accurate I think.  I’m sitting on a bed at my parents house typing this, and I just want to put my laptop down and listen for the entirety of the album and not have to concentrate on anything else.

The beat on “Pool House” is really persistent, and I love it. It’s got some really great percussion tracks in the mix there. The tone on the synth is really great too. It’s so smooth but it has a really great texture. Getting both of those is really hard. This makes me want to go find a really great synth and play along for a few hours.

People have called this similar to an early Radio Dept. with deeper and more mysteriously sad vocals. They say they sound exotic. They call them pop gems. Whatever you want to call The Never Years, it’s probably going to be positive. Head over to their Bandcamp page and give them a good long listen. Chill out and enjoy the rest of your day. This is the soundtrack for you.
